Southern cities tear down Confederate statues — while Seattle’s Lenin remains

The American Mirror

Critics of the decision to remove several Confederate monuments in New Orleans are pointing to offensive communist monuments in places like Seattle that are protected for their intrinsic value.

A towering 18-foot-tall statue of Russian communist Vladimir Lenin has remained standing in the eccentric North Seattle neighborhood of Fremont for decades despite strong public opposition and repeated vandalism, KOMO reports.

The comparison came from opponents of New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s recent decision to move forward on the City Council’s 2015 vote to remove statues of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and P.T. Beauregard, as well as a granite obelisk the mayor dubbed “symbols of white supremacy.”

According to KOMO:

While writing about the removal of the New Orleans monuments, right-wing media site NewsBusters relayed a reader’s comment comparing the four removed statues to the Lenin statue in Fremont, the irreverent, artsy North Seattle neighborhood and self-proclaimed “Center of the Universe.”

The cast bronze sculpture of Lenin, which is designed to make him appear as a revolutionary, was found in a scrapyard in Europe by a Washington English teacher who paid to transport it to the United States. The teacher, Lewis Carpenter, could not convince his hometown of Issaquah to display the statue, but Seattle sculptor Peter Bevis arranged to have it displayed in Fremont as the now deceased Carpenter’s family attempts to sell it for $250,000, according to the news site.

Lenin was a communist dictator who ran Russia from 1917 until his death in 1924, a time during which an estimated 9 million died due to war, terror and famine tied to his radical policies, according to “Source List and Detailed Death Tolls for the Primary Megadeths of the Twentieth Century.”

The larger-than-life, 7-ton Lenin statue was unveiled in Fremont in 1995, and met immediate resistance.

“This is highly inappropriate in this community,” local artist Frederick Edelblut complained to SeattlePI at the time. “It’s not a piece of art. It’s a disgrace, a … symbol of denigration, and a symbol of millions of people who have died in Eastern Europe from communist domination.”

Over the years, the statue has been painted red to convey the blood on Lenin’s hands, and repeatedly vandalized by graffiti. But it still stands in the center of town, held in trust by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, KOMO reports.

Bevis insists the Lenin sculpture isn’t about his wild political views or the millions who suffered and died during his regime. Rather, it’s a testament that “art outlives politics,” he told the news site.

The city’s official website is evidence that local leaders stand behind Bevis.

“This sculpture is placed her in the Artist’s Republic of Fremont, as a symbol of an artistic spirit that outlasts regimes and ideologies, and as tangible proof that art does outlive politics,” according to the site.

It’s a progressive position that’s apparently not shared by New Orleans’ Democratic mayor.

“It would be better for all New Orleans city leaders children, black and white, to see symbols in prominent places in New Orleans city leaders city that make them feel proud of their city and inspire them to greatness,” Landrieu recently said in defense of removing the city’s Confederate monuments.

ObamaGov: Story of a Tyrant and a Collaborative Congress

Gulag Bound

It’s becoming harder and harder for a great number of people to make sense of what the government is doing.  So, instead of actually looking to and accepting the obvious and logical reasons (aka Occam’s Razor) for what it occurring, media personnel (it has become increasingly difficult to call them journalists or reporters) continue to scratch their heads and ask ‘what is Obama doing’?  The answer is obvious to all, but the relatively brain dead.  In other words, Americans–even if they are slightly dim-witted collaborative “reporters”–know precisely what he’s doing.

Despite his ill-gotten success, but raised by Communist he and she wolves, Obama is destroying the country he has been taught to hate since he was a child; the same country that gave his grandparents an excellent income and lifestyle in Hawaii and Obama a life of privilege and enrollment at Honolulu‘s finest school.  There is no other logical or rational explanation.  He is destroying the country with vigor and prurient joy.  Therefore, that was and is his intention.  His early heroes were Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin and Adolph Hitler.  He later graduated to admiring the oft-mentioned self-proclaimed Luciferian Saul Alinsky.

Why Obama, Pelosi, and Reid Won’t Quit Pushing Health Care Reform

Pajamas Media

The current push for government-run health care via the nuclear option and last week’s Blair House TV snooze-orama are clear demonstrations that Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid share Vladimir Lenin’s tenacity to impose radical change where it’s not welcome — in fact, where there’s downright hostility to change by a solid majority of Americans.  And make no mistake, Lenin was first and foremost about the will to power.

Gale winds of public disapproval may be blowing against proposed government-run health care and its proponents, but Obama and congressional Democratic leaders plod forward with stolid determination, now extending by six weeks the time to work through an acceptable framework to pass so-called health care reform. If that extension fails to secure health care reform legislation, then these leaders may seek another extension, if possible, in an effort to wear down opposition to their designs.

Before liberals level charges of red-baiting, I’ll offer that the differences between Lenin and the Bolsheviks and Obama and left-wing Democrats are significant, many, and varied. Through skullduggery, battle, and blood, Lenin established a dictatorship of the proletariat, which history has amply shown was a thinly veiled dictatorship by Lenin and his Communist Party heirs.  There was nothing “soft” about Lenin’s tyranny or Stalin’s. The mass graves of tens of millions of victims bear mute testament to these despots’ infamy.

Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are decidedly pale reds, or as was said in an earlier generation, “pinkos.” But all three have grand ambitions, make no mistake, to achieve through imposition the social — or should it be said, socialist — democracy that lies with deadening weight across the width and breadth of Western Europe. These three Democratic leaders are working within our system of government to fundamentally alter government’s relationship to the people. If these three succeed, the American experiment in liberty will effectively end.

The president and the two congressional leaders are so blinded by their ideology, so bullheaded in accomplishing a radical transformation of health care, that they’ve discarded the common sense and instinct for self-preservation that usually governs politicians’ actions. Instead, this triumvirate makes rationalizations for support of a proposal that’s been DOA almost from its inception.
