Ronald Reagan: Veterans Day Speech 1988

“Those who live today remember those who do not. Those who know freedom remember today those who gave up life for freedom.
Today, in honor of the dead, we conduct ceremonies. We lay wreaths. We speak words of tribute. And in our memories, in our hearts, we hold them close to us still. Yet we also know, even as their families knew when they last looked upon them, that they can never be fully ours again, that they belong now to God and to that for which they so selflessly made a final and eternal act of devotion.
We could not forget them. Even if they were not our own, we could not forget them. For all time, they are what we can only aspire to be: giving, unselfish, the epitome of human love — to lay down one’s life so that others might live.
We think on their lives. We think on their final moments. In our mind’s eye, we see young Americans in a European forest or on an Asian island or at sea or in aerial combat.
And as life expired, we know that those who could had last thoughts of us and of their love for us. As they thought of us then, so, too, we think of them now, with love, with devotion, and with faith: the certainty that what they died for was worthy of their sacrifice — faith, too, in God and in the Nation that has pledged itself to His work and to the dream of human freedom, and a nation, too, that today and always pledges itself to their eternal memory.
Thank you. God bless you.
– Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States (1981–1989), delivered at the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, November 11, 1988.

Campaign 2016: More pathetic than laughable

Family Security Matters

Over one hundred years ago, Ambrose Bierce, a 19th century political satirist, deploring the political corruption and lack of representative government, described Washington D.C. as a:

“Strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles and the conduct of public affairs for private advantage.”

How little things have changed.

Yet, seemingly oblivious to this persistent, fundamental problem in our political-media culture, Democrat and Republican Presidential candidates and political pundits of all stripes, arrogantly dismiss voter sentiment and choose to remain focused solely on their posturing for each election cycle driven by petty policy squabbles as to whether 2 + 2 = 3 or 2 + 2 = 5.

The Hollowing of the U.S. Military

Family Security Matters

troops_military_group

“This is the most uncertain time I’ve seen in our national security since I’ve been in uniform. … [Yet] in the summer of 2013, only 10 percent of the [understrength] Army was ready to deploy.” – Gen. Raymond Odierno, chief of staff of the Army

For the past four decades, the military has experienced the challenges of drawdowns and war, but now stands “hollow.” Though the drawdowns of the post-Vietnam period were difficult, the post-Iraq and Afghanistan drawdown is dangerous and something we must fix. As an Army officer for the past quarter century (both active duty and Reserve) who was born in the 1960s to a career Army officer and Vietnam veteran, and having grown up on military bases, I would like to offer some perspective. Though I speak to the U.S. Army, the other military branches have followed parallel experiences.

7 Ways Liberals Are Just As Bad As The People They Hate Most

Free Republic

“Words mean nothing to liberals. They say whatever will help advance their cause at the moment, switch talking points in a heartbeat, and then act indignant if anyone uses the exact same argument they were using five minutes ago.” — Ann Coulter

“It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”Ronald Reagan

Liberals are the mirror image of everything they claim to hate. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds, their ability to unflinchingly examine their own beliefs is practically non-existent and they are almost incapable of objectively examining the policies they advocate. The more fully people become engulfed by liberalism, the more they embrace political correctness, groupthink, and close-mindedness until their thought process becomes little more than simplistic tribalism.

liberal stance

Liberalism is good, just, and best because it’s liberalism. Conservatism is bad, unjust, and worse because it’s conservatism. End of story.

Seldom do liberals realize that they advocate positions that are just as morally repulsive as the grotesque positions they habitually (and usually incorrectly) attribute to people who disagree with them.

Removing Presidential Term Limits is Like Granting Caesar Full Autonomy as Supreme Ruler of the Roman Empire

Freedom Outpost

The rumor mill is heating up with rumors that say in 2016, Obama will be  president…again. That’s right. Numerous sources are indicating that  Obama will have a 3rd term in office.

One idiot professor who wrote an op-ed recently for The  Washington Post says as much. Jonathan Zimmerman, professor of history and  education at New York University, writes that it’s a good idea for a variety of  reasons that Obama should remain president for yet another term, or at least  have the opportunity to have a 3rd term.

Eliminating term limits means creating an emperor for life.

Eliminating term limits means creating an emperor for  life.

If Obama could be elected again, then he would not have to fear  the voters, says Zimmerman. “If he chooses, he could simply ignore their will.”  This statement proves to me that people like Zimmerman are not qualified to be  professors of anything. Apparently, Zimmerman has not noticed the fact that  Obama has pretty much ignored not only the will of the people, but the law of  the land, and the will of the courts. Nothing new there, really though Zimmerman  hasn’t noticed it.

Stick a Fork in Obama

American Thinker

We  are only three and a quarter years away from transforming the United States of  America.  We may never get back to where we once were, but we can sure roll  back much of the mess Barack Obama has created through his misguided policies  and serial incompetence.

With  ObamaCare’s ascendancy and impending crash, America will be on the cusp of  transformational action.  The misery the ACA will bring to almost every  American cannot be overestimated in its ability to incite anger — and, anger  has consequences and repercussions.  The failure of the ACA has the  potential to make 2014 a wave election for Republicans.  In 2016, we may  see a true conservative as president.

America  put men on the moon.  Now, with 3 ½ years and a half a billion dollars, we  can’t even build a website.  This is how much Barry and his ilk have  degraded the brand.  We used to be the shining light on the hill.   Now, we are darkness at the end of the tunnel.  Barack Obama has been the  worst thing that has ever happened to the Oval Office, and in the end, ObamaCare  will seal his fate as a failed president.

Battered America Syndrome

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton – The NoisyRoom

The assault on the Constitution and our Founding Principles has accelerated. Americans seem to be assailed by Marxist/Progressive propaganda at every turn. The most serious threat to our God-given rights currently, is the attack being mounted on the Second Amendment by the Progressive Left. They worked hard to manufacture a crisis with the Fast & Furious project which, to their disappointment, was exposed for the corrupt scandal it was before it could be leveraged to generate the outrage they hoped for. Their prayers for violence and horror, however, were answered. Using ginned up hysteria from convenient, current mass shootings and the slaughter of children – they never let a crisis go to waste. The Marxists see an opening to gut the Constitution and they are making their move. We dare not passively wait to be stripped of our rights.

The time for physical resistance has not yet arrived. Violence is always the very last resort. But neither has the time to just protect your own. Yes, we should take stock of our food, ammo, weapons and survival materials. Yes, we should brief our families and be more vigilant in protecting them. Yes, we should get to know our neighbors and form alliances. No, we should not just regroup and wait. That is a swift path to dictatorship. Pray for the best, plan for the worst. People should be doubling down on calling their politicians and letting them know that we are massively against these fascist moves towards banning and confiscating our guns. This is a battle we cannot — must not — lose, not if we wish to avoid civil conflict and bloodshed. This is it, boys and girls. We are fighting for all the marbles here. Throughout history, each time there is a genocide (or, “ethnic cleansing”), arms are regulated, registered and confiscated. Obama is threatening to go down that path and he relishes the thought.

Is Congress Refusing to Stop the Obama Syndicate Crimes?

CFP

With all of its pretense of sending open letters to Obama pleading with him to stop his illegal and Congressional bypassing behaviors, Congress patently refuses to stop Dictator-in-Chief Obama from destroying the United States of America and enslaving its people.  The latest “plea” that prompted this column is the 26 September 2011 Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) begging letter to the US “dear leader.”  In it, Grassley begins:

Obama’s ineligibility: When government declares war on the people

CFP

At Lexington and Concord, the American militia was able to stand their ground against oppression because they stockpiled weapons and ammunition, created an effective local intelligence network and had the support of the populace. Those are the fundamentals of a classical insurgency.

In 1964, no one framed the choice better than Ronald Reagan:
