On November 5, the White House released the text of the 5,544 page Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) that President Obama had just finished negotiating under the FastTrack authority that Congress gave him. That trade pact can no longer be amended. The up-or-down votes in the House and Senate will take place as early as January 2016.
So what’s in the TPP? Here’s a quick summary:
- A legislative body superior to Congress
- A vehicle to pass Obama’s climate change treaty
- Increased legal immigration
- Reduced patent protection for U.S. pharmaceuticals
- Quotas on U.S. agricultural exports
- Increased currency manipulation
- Reduced U.S. power
That’s the summary. Here are the details.
Politicizing the Oregon shooting. Update to this story.
Via The Hill:
President Obama is ordering flags on public buildings and grounds to be flown at half-staff until Tuesday following the deadly mass shooting at a community college in Oregon.
American flags will be lowered at the White House and public buildings and military installations across the country as well as at U.S. embassies and posts abroad.
Obama delivered his proclamation shortly after he finished a press conference at the White House where he discussed the school shooting for the second time in two days.
“The politics has to change,” Obama told reporters, saying he would continue talking about gun control measures for the remainder of his term.
His presidential proclamation is intended as “a mark of respect for the victims of gun violence perpetrated” Thursday at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore.
Obama first responded to the Oregon shooting that left nine people dead, along with the lone gunman, and several more injured, during a press conference on Thursday evening.
“This is a political choice that we make, to allow this to happen every few months in America,” a visibly angry Obama said then. “We collectively are answerable to those families who lose their loved ones because of our inaction.”
Many Republicans have pushed back on calls for new gun measures in the wake of the shooting, while Democrats called for an end to the “carnage” of mass shootings.
Obama last ordered flags to fly at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings following a July shooting that left five U.S. services members dead in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Obama’s proclamation came shortly after the names of the shooting victims were released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The victims ranged in age from 18-67.
Right Side News
Liberals saw fit to choose as Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces a left-wing community organizer whose only qualifications were his politically correct black skin and Muslim name. Let’s see how it is working out from the point of view of those he commands:
A stunning number of retired U.S. military leaders were not surprised when Barack Obama announced that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel would be stepping down from his Obama cabinet last week. The announcement confirmed their expectations that the president’s distrust of the military has caused him to go to the “extreme levels of micromanaging from the White House,” said one Army general on Saturday, now retired in Texas, who wishes to remain anonymous.
“Obama has shown his stripes and is dangerously suspicious of the Pentagon,” revealed the general, who keeps close ties with current and former military leaders nationally. “Most of my colleagues are just hoping all the damage being planned is not completed before his time runs out on his term.”
“It’s not just the army,” noted the general. “All branches are worried because Obama, when he finally makes up his mind about something, gets his advice from Gen. (Martin) Dempsey (Joints Chiefs of Staff Chairman), Susan Rice, John Kerry and Denis McDonough.”
No, you read the title right but it took me a while to post this one because I was laughing so hard.
He really thinks people believe this BS?

… “What we’ve got to do is make sure that we are organizing the Arab world, the Middle East, the Muslim world along with the international community to isolate this cancer,” he said.
Obama added that the “particular brand” of extremism was “first and foremost destructive to the Muslim world,” by killing innocent citizens and damaging their economies.
“They are falling behind because of this very small and narrow, but very dangerous segment of the population and we’ve got to combat it in a sustained effective way, and I’m confident that we’re going to do that,” he said.
It’s been well over 100 days since U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi accidentally drove across the border into Mexico with legally registered weapons and was detained by Mexican authorities.
Tahmooressi has made several pleas to Barack Obama to take action to get him out of prison, or to at least expedite due process and move up his trial, but has received nothing from the White House.
Many conservatives and members of Congress have been speaking out against Barack Obama’s downsizing of the military, fearing that it could possibly make the U.S. too weak to protect the country from global threats.
Liberals, of course, reacted with name calling, a typical strategy employed by those who have no facts or evidence to win people over to their way of thinking through logical, thoughtful, and civil discourse.
Progressives have called those in favor of a strong military “war mongers” or “war hawks,” failing to see the bigger picture, which is the fact that threats to national security are growing in scope and sophistication.
Now, thanks to a report from the National Defense Panel, conservatives can feel vindicated in their claims, as the panel concluded that Obama is in fact weakening the military, and this leaves America vulnerable.
