Why Republicans Shouldn’t Cave To Democrats On Guns

It’s not only to prevent a Democrat landslide in 2020. It’s because Democrats will settle for nothing less than gun confiscation.

The Federalist

It has been said that Republicans are the “party of stupid” and Democrats the party of something worse. In their reaction to Democrats’ demand for gun control several weeks ago, President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared ready to prove the comparison about the GOP.

Soon after the multiple-victim murders in Dayton and El Paso—the former by a Democrat and self-described leftist supporter of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the latter allegedly by someone who, for the sake of the environment, theorized “if we can get rid of enough people, then our way of life can be more sustainable”—Trump and McConnell said they were considering two elements of Democrats’ decades-old civilian disarmament agenda: “universal” background checks and a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, including those for handguns.

If Trump and McConnell, encouraged by Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham, who supports susceptible-to-abuse “red flag” gun confiscation laws; Rick Scott, who as governor of Florida signed legislation prohibiting young adults from buying firearms; and Pat Toomey, co-sponsor of a version of “universal” checks, cave to Democrats on guns, they might alienate enough voters to assure that Democrats re-take the White House and Senate, and hold the House of Representatives in the 2020 elections.

However, there are more important reasons Republicans should reject Democrats’ demands on guns.

Nevada: Gun Control Bills Pass Assembly

Nevada: Gun Control Bills Pass Assembly

NRA-ILA

On April 23rd, the Nevada Assembly voted to pass Assembly Bill 291 and Assembly Bill 153.   AB 291 and AB 153 have been transmitted to the Senate and assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee for further consideration.

Assembly Bill 291, introduced by Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui (D-41), is omnibus anti-gun legislation that is a threat to both law-abiding gun owners residing in Nevada and those who are visiting.  Most notably, AB 291 would:

  • Allow Local Gun Control Laws: Nevada’s firearm preemption laws have been on the books since 1989 and have been improved over the years to ensure consistency in firearm laws throughout the state, by occupying the field of firearm related regulations with the State Legislature.  With the amendments to AB 291, the legislature would cede authority to the counties to pass stricter gun control laws without limitation.  This move could result in a confusing patchwork of laws for both residents and visitors to navigate while subjecting Nevadans in one county to a different set of rules and regulations regarding their constitutional rights than to a person in a neighboring county.
  • Criminalize Certain Firearm Modifications: With the amendments, this legislation remains broader than existing federal regulations, and would criminalize certain modifications on semi-automatic firearms.  Violations of this section would result in felony penalties.
  • Expand the ability for localities to create “gun-free zones:” These arbitrary boundaries would only disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless against the criminals who ignore such restrictions.

Assembly Bill 153, introduced by Assembly Member Ozzie Fumo (D-21), would expand Nevada’s current law regulating firearm storage that could make firearms unavailable for self-defense.

Congressional Democrat spills the beans, says “gun confiscation” is the ultimate goal

DC Clothesline

(Natural News) Shall not infringe. Shall not infringe. Shall not infringe. How many times do the gun-grabbing Democrats in Congress need to hear these three simple words before they get it through their thick skulls that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which protects and guarantees Americans’ God-given right to bear arms, is non-negotiable?

Apparently a few more times, as House Democrats are busy scheming up legislation that would make it much more difficult for the people of this country to rightfully buy, sell, and possess firearms. And their ultimate end game, as openly admitted by California Democrat Mike Thompson during a recent press conference, is to eventually confiscate everybody’s guns.

Responding to critics who say that the two Democratic House bills currently being proposed to curtail Americans’ Second Amendment rights would have done nothing to prevent past gun violence tragedies, Rep. Thompson agreed, stating further that the only way to end gun violence is to scrap the Second Amendment entirely.

“As far as anybody who says, ‘Well, this bill wouldn’t have solved this incident,’ the only thing that will solve every one is to do away with guns,” Rep. Thompson is quoted as saying. “So are you telling me that the critics of my bill want to do away with all guns?” he then asked, rhetorically.

It couldn’t be clearer: Leftists are planning to eventually take everybody’s guns by first starting with “reasonable gun control”

NC Democratic Sheriff Candidate Jokes About Killing Gun Owners

Townhall

Once again, we’re reminded how the Left just hates us, and that they can’t be trusted on gun control. Enough with the lies that they just want common sense gun control.  They either want to lay down the foundation to ban and confiscate guns, or they just want to kill you—or at least joke about it. In North Carolina, a Democrat running for sheriff joked about just that during a meeting with Moms Demand Action. The race is in Buncombe County (via NTK Network):

Democrat Daryl Fisher, a candidate for Buncombe County Sheriff in North Carolina, joked that he would be fine with prying guns from owners’ “cold, dead hands” at a meeting with Moms Demand Action earlier in March.

“How far do we go?” Fisher asked rhetorically. “Any weapon that’s designed for use by the military, I think we should ban.” He told the gun control group that they shouldn’t be intimidated by right-wing “scare tactics.”

“You’ve heard people say, ‘You’ll have to pry my guns from my cold, dead hands,’” Fisher said. The Democrat then shrugged his shoulders and commented, “Ok!”

For those quarterbacking this latest gun control push, are they aware of what’s happening in their backyard? I think they are. They say one thing to the cameras to not scare the country, but their supporters, the Democratic base, and obviously the rabid progressive wing of America want to ban guns—and they’ll probably have zero problems with gun owners being killed. Killing people to save people—granted what else would you expect from a political movement that thinks it’s perfectly fine to kill babies. It’s par for the course. At the same time, it just shows why every election at every level is important.

It Begins: Florida Resident’s Firearms, Ammunition Confiscated Under Gun Control Law

Free Republic

The guns and ammunition of a 56-year-old Lighthouse Point, Florida, resident were confiscated by police in what is reportedly the first such seizure under gun control laws signed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) last week. The Orlando Sentinel reports that “four firearms and 267 rounds of ammunition” were taken from the man, and he was “taken to a hospital for involuntary psychiatric treatment.”

The seized firearms were listed as “a Ruger LCP .380 pistol, an M2 Mauser .45 pistol, a Charter Arms .357 mag snub nose revolver and a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun.”

The paper notes that “the civil ruling removing his access to guns and ammunition was granted under … new legislation — which permits confiscating guns from people who have not been committed but are deemed a potential risk to themselves or others, according to the order signed by Broward’s Chief Judge Jack Tuter.”

Gun control in Europe is almost total. It hasn’t stopped mass shooting attacks like Las Vegas

Fox News

via Free Republic

Within hours of the horrible attack in Las Vegas, before we knew most of the relevant facts about the tragedy, gun control advocates were calling for more gun control. Here is something I would like those advocates to consider: Europe, which has all the gun controls that are being pushed in the aftermath of the Las Vegas carnage, has actually suffered more bloodshed from these types of attacks than the U.S.

You heard that right: Countries such as France may have made all semi-automatic guns illegal, but that hasn’t stopped killers from getting fully automatic machine guns to use in mass shooting attacks. All four of the 2015 mass public shooting in France involved machine guns, including the 130 people killed in November of that year in multiple attacks including one at a concert venue.

In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Europe saw machine gun attacks in airports and nightclubs by groups such as Black September and the Red Army Faction. In fact, machine guns are commonly used in mass shootings in the rest of the world.

This has not been the case here in the U.S. In fact, Sunday’s attack on a country music festival in Las Vegas – that left at least 58 people dead and more than 500 wounded – may be the first mass public shooting in the U.S. involving a machine gun, if it turns out the killer did use such a weapon. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, is believed to have used at least one fully automatic weapon – weapons that are heavily restricted under U.S. federal law.

It is an attack that is likely to rank 14th in the most deadly mass public shooting in the world since 1970. . . .
