That weird silence from Democrats over Venezuela’s massive rejection of socialism

All over the world, nations and leaders are throwing expressions of support and praise for Venezuela’s leaders and people, who after many years of oppression and missteps, have come together with a courageous plan to non-violently shake off a detested socialist dictatorship that has left their country in ruins. Television pictures from yesterday’s demonstration covered the story in spades, showing the magnificent human spectacle to U.S. viewers.

President Trump and Vice President Pence have been right there for them. The Organization of American States and the Inter American Development Bank are loudly supporting them. The European Union is openly encouraging them.

There also are the skunks, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government, an official of which dismissed the millions-strong effort to shake off socialism and finally have food to eat, muggers in jail, a full roll of toilet paper and hospitals with sheets, running water and Band Aids as “an attempted coup.’

Then there are the Democrats, who are curiously, weirdly silent.

Ruperto Escobar, a 75 year-old, seventh-generation Texas farmer, is offering to donate property to the federal government where it can build a border wall, because he has suffered a lifetime of harm due to illegal immigration.

“The problem there right now is primarily drug trafficking. The Illegal immigrants traveling through there are not so prominent, anymore, like they used to be,” Escobar told Fox News in an interview on Wednesday.

In his 75 years living on the border, he has “seen everything,” Escobar said. Currently, Escobar explained, illegal aliens in vehicles packed with drugs are routinely driving at “high velocity” across his property – often with police in hot pursuit:

“But, I have lived there 75 years, Steve, and let me tell you: I have seen everything happen there. Right now, I must access the river, because I have a pumping site. And I have good, workable road to the river and you ought to see the amount of traffic that happens primary going back towards the river.

“People that get caught, vehicles full of drugs, and they speed back toward the river at a very high velocity past my house – a whole slew of police after them. Then, these individuals park their loaded Suburbans, things like that, right by the bank of the Rio Grande, jump in the water, off they go. They leave everything there. That happens quite often.”

Asked to respond to House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) claim that a border wall is “immoral,” Escobar said that it’s actually the havoc wreaked by illegal aliens on his property that’s immoral:

“I say ma’am, I don’t know where you get your facts but from what we have endured, my lifetime, which is about 75 years now of seeing the number of illegals coming across here trampling over our fences the drug dealers tearing down our gates. That is immoral. And, we’re tired of it. We need that wall.”

This is no mere rant from some fringe far lefter. No, this is coming from House Budget Committee chair Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) one of the highest ranking Democrats in all of Congress. Following a social media mob reaction to a video that has since been proven to have been badly taken out of context and resulted in (yet again) more fake news headlines, Congressman Yarmuth is calling for a federal ban on teenagers wearing MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN hats. This isn’t a joke. This isn’t parody. We are living in a time when political “leaders” are attempting to ban hats.

House Budget Committee chair Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) called Sunday for a ban on teenagers wearing “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hats, in response to a viral video of a confrontation between Catholic students and Native American counter-demonstrators at the March for Life on Friday in Washington, DC.
Yarmuth holds one of the most powerful positions in the Democrat-run U.S. House of Representatives.

He blamed President Donald Trump for the students’ behavior.

The MAGA hats are one of the most recognizable symbols of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, and are commonly worn by Trump supporters.

However, as numerous critics have pointed out, the confrontation was widely mis-reported, and took place in almost exactly the opposite way it had been reported in the mainstream media. The students had been targeted by racial slurs, and the Native American activist approached them, rather than the other way around.

Yarmuth, like every other member of Congress, swore an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution — including the First Amendment, which declares: “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech.”
