In January 2014, President Obama nominated Staci Michelle Yandle to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
In July 2018, Yandle ruled that an immigrant named Iyman Faris could keep his U.S. citizenship.
However, Yandle’s ruling was in violation of federal law. Federal law required Faris to be deported because he was an al-Qaida terrorist, he had plotted to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge, and he had lied on his immigration application.
Faris had traveled to Afghanistan, where he had been introduced to Osama bin Laden.
Like the 9-11 terrorists, Faris had come to the U.S. on a student visa, but never actually enrolled in school. Despite this, Judge Yandle falsely claimed that Faris had not deliberately lied on his immigration application.
