Russia, China and Iran in Venezuela

Last week, I tripped across a very interesting article from the Middle East Forum. It’s written by Joseph M. Humire of the Gatestone Institute, where I also saw it. It’s very well written and I recommend both sites. It caught my eye because it covers a topic that has bothered me for a long time militarily… Venezuela.

At issue here is the fact that Iran, Russia and China have moved into Venezuela and are looking to use it as a military vantage point. They also want the oil there. Caught in the middle are the starving people of a once prosperous nation. They are pawns in a geopolitical chess match. Rex Tillerson just finished a tour of Latin America where he invoked the Monroe Doctrine, which Obama tried to kill off. He suggested the Venezuelan military could manage a “peaceful transition” from the authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro. Once again, this raised the specter of the US using a “military option” for Venezuela, where we would step in to stop the country from collapsing. Iran, China and Russia are sure to take a dim view of any move by the US and we should be aware they are there. Tillerson mentioned both Russia and China, but failed to mention Iran.

Dallas resident defends his home from three teens

Two teenagers are in custody and a third is dead after an attempted break-in in southeast Dallas on Monday morning. Police said the suspects were betting on entering an empty house — not facing an armed homeowner.

Investigators said the three young people rang the front doorbell of Lee Cobler’s home in the 7300 block of Vallejo Drive. When no one answered, they went around the back and started trying to kick the door in. But Cobler, 51, was at home with an adult son. The son was on the phone with 911 when police said Cobler opened fire on the intruders, killing 14-year-old Luis Avila, a student at Hood Middle School. “He was able to make the right choice to protect his child,” said Shirley Starks, president of the local homeowners’ association.

“It was important, because he did not know that those — whoever was coming through that door — was not going to kill all of them.” Investigators are not saying that the teenagers were armed, but police were at Hood Middle School Monday afternoon interviewing students and offering counseling. Principal C.A. Williams sent out a letter to parents explaining that one of their students was killed in a burglary attempt.

“Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with the family and close friends of the student who is no longer with us,” she wrote. News 8 captured a video showing what’s believed to be one of the teenage suspects being arrested just a few blocks away from the shooting scene.

“It’s surprising like to see like kids — 13-year-old kids — like breaking in nowadays,” added Sarah Trevino, who was watching what happened. Residents in the Piedmont neighborhood have been on high alert after four burglaries in recent months, and Crime Watch officials said it was just a matter of time until something ended in a tragedy like this.

“This can happen to any child that is doing something like this,” Starks said. “Why weren’t the parents watching him to make sure that he wasn’t doing something like this, is my question.” Police have the two other suspects in custody, ages 13 and 14. They have been charged with attempted burglary. Police spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell said no charges have been filed against Cobler, but a grand jury will review the circumstances of the fatal shooting.

Where Are the Indictments of Obama’s Foreign Colluders?

by Daniel Greenfield

The indictments are in.

Team Mueller indicted a bunch of Russians associated with a troll farm for interfering with an election in the United States. Russian troll farms generally don’t follow United States law. But foreigners are not allowed to interfere with elections in the United States. Unless they’re named Christopher Steele.

The Clinton campaign employed a British foreign agent who used Russian intelligence sources to put together opposition research meant to interfere with the results of a United States election. Collusion between the Clinton campaign, Steele and the Russians doesn’t require an endless fishing expedition.

Foreigners interfering in United States elections are not a new phenomenon. Muslims in Gaza famously ran a phone bank for Obama. A Hamas political adviser had declared that he hoped Obama would win.

There was no investigation. Nor did anyone indict the Gazans running the phone bank.

Flashback 30 Years: Guns Were in Schools … and Nothing Happened

 PJ Media

The millennial generation might be surprised to learn that theirs is the first without guns in school. Just 30 years ago, high school kids rode the bus with rifles and shot their guns at high school rifle ranges.

After another school shooting, it’s time to ask: what changed?

Cross guns off the list of things that changed in thirty years. In 1985, semi-automatic rifles existed, and a semi-automatic rifle was used in Florida. Guns didn’t suddenly decide to visit mayhem on schools. Guns can’t decide.

High school gun range 1985. “Obey instantly all firing line commands.”

We can also cross the Second Amendment off the list. It existed for over 200 years before this wickedness unfolded. Nothing changed in the Constitution.

That leaves us with some uncomfortable possibilities remaining. What has changed from thirty years ago when kids could take firearms into school responsibly and today might involve some difficult truths.

Let’s inventory the possibilities.
