HAVANA — President Raúl Castro declared victory for the Cuban Revolution on Saturday in a wide-ranging speech, thanking President Obama for “a new chapter” while also reaffirming that restored relations with the United States did not mean the end of Communist rule in Cuba.

In a televised speech before Parliament and a group of favored guests — including Elián González, the center of a tug of war in 2000 between Cuban exiles and Havana, and the three men convicted of spying in the United States who were released as part of the historic agreement announced on Wednesday — Mr. Castro alternated between conciliatory and combative statements directed at the United States.

State Dept. Issues Worldwide Travel Alert

The United States issued a worldwide travel alert Friday, warning Americans to be vigilant during the holiday period, especially in the wake of a deadly siege in Australia.

Sydney this week saw a dramatic siege in a cafe that began Monday and left two hostages and a gunman dead.

“The lone wolf attack in Sydney, Australia… resulting in the deaths of two hostages, is a reminder that US citizens should be extra cautious, maintain a very high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance their personal security,” the State Department alert read.

The agency said an analysis of past attacks “strongly suggests” terrorists this holiday season are focusing not only on US government facilities but also on hotels, shopping areas, places of worship and schools.

“US citizens abroad should be mindful that terrorist groups and those inspired by them can pose unpredictable threats in public venues,” the alert said.

President Obama spent the first day of his winter vacation with a familiar pastime: hitting the links.

The president arrived at Marine Corps Base Hawaii shortly before noon local time for a round with aides Mike Brush and Joe Paulsen, along with longtime friend Bobby Titcomb.

Titcomb and Obama attended prep school at Honolulu’s Punahou School together during the 1970s. Obama’s winter vacations usually include a trip to his North Shore home, where recent visits have included barbecuing, volleyball, and jet-skiing.

In 2011, Titcomb pleaded no contest after he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Hawaii. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine and make a donation to a criminal injury compensation fund, according to the Associated Press.

Last Saturday, two NYPD officers were assaulted by seven protesters who punched and kicked them. Now this. What did the race baiters expect? They begged for this to happen – they incited riots and violence and now two good men are dead. They were working overtime as part of an anti-terrorism drill in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Very dark irony at play.

Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a gang banger, nonchalantly walked up to the patrol car, pulled a gun and shot the officers. His Instagram page bragged about committing this atrocity 48 hours before he did the deed. First he shot his girlfriend in Baltimore… then he drove to New York and murdered two officers and then committed suicide in a subway station. This was an execution plain and simple and Brinsley said he did it in revenge for Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Both killed by cops in the line of duty and both grand juries found the officers innocent. But because of ginned up racial unrest by the likes of Al Sharpton and Mayor De Blasio, thugs are taking their own form of justice in the streets. Well done, you grandstanding, evil idiots.

De Blasio is on the air as I write this. I can’t stomach watching the hypocrite. Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos will miss Christmas with their grieving families this year. Meanwhile, De Blasio poses for the cameras and tries to look sad. I call bull crap. He threw all of the NYPD under the bus over the Garner incident. They weren’t innocent till proven guilty – they were ruled innocent and declared guilty by their own Marxist Mayor.

Another step has been taken to restore second amendment rights to the position that they held before the modern assault on the Constitution.   It is an important case because it establishes the precedent that your second amendment rights cannot be permanently removed for a temporary condition; and that the proper level of scrutiny in the court is the highest accorded to fundamental constitutional rights, that  of strict scrutiny.  From the opinion of the court, pdf file:

BOGGS, Circuit Judge. This case presents an important issue of first impression in the federal courts: whether a prohibition on the possession of firearms by a person “who has been committed to a mental institution,” 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(4), violates the Second Amendment. Twenty-eight years ago, Clifford Charles Tyler was involuntarily committed for less than one month after allegedly undergoing an emotionally devastating divorce. Consequently, he can never possess a firearm. Tyler filed suit in federal court, seeking a declaratory judgment that § 922(g)(4) is unconstitutional as applied to him. The district court dismissed Tyler’s suit for failure to state a claim. Because Tyler’s complaint validly states a violation of the Second Amendment, we reverse and remand.

It is of significant interest that much of the case centers on the refusal of the federal government to provide a mechanism for relief in these cases.   In point of fact, disarmists have blocked passage of funding to allow cases to be reviewed, and the Justice Department refuses to review cases at all.
