American patriot Chuck Norris has penned a scathing piece on America’s First Amendment problem in the wake of the city of Houston subpoenaing local pastors for their sermons and private correspondence.
Houston mayor Annise Parker made national headlines recently when she demanded pastors who opposed the city’s new law concerning transgender bathroom usage and so-called equal rights to hand over their sermons. The subpoena demanded “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to [the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance], the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession.”
Despite massive pushback against her witch hunt and supposed attempts to assure the people she is not violating anyone’s religious liberties, her lackey and City Attorney David Feldman, has claimed, “If someone is speaking from the pulpit and it’s political speech, then it’s not going to be protected.” Mayor Parker echoed this sentiment tweeting, “If the 5 pastors used pulpits for politics, their sermons are fair game.”
Chuck Norris, a proud Texan and conservative, is not too thrilled about this ongoing saga. Writing for WND he said, “I’m a Texan and it chaps my hide when some homegrown kibosh of the U.S. Constitution originates in the Lone Star State.” He continued, “It’s called the First Amendment, and I am tired of people trampling it by wrongly interpreting it as a right for only feel-good expression…If that constitutional decree doesn’t protect the worst of language, then what is freedom of speech all about.”
Norris is correct. Christians are becoming a prime target throughout this country, and attacks on people of faith are becoming more frequent. But this is one of the boldest actions yet. The Texas Attorney General even took time to condemn this appalling act of political retribution, saying, “Whether you intend it to be so or not, your action is a direct assault on the religious liberty guaranteed by the First Amendment.”
For too long, liberals have gotten away with harassing Christians because they don’t subscribe to progressive ideology and won’t betray their religious beliefs. Texans and their fellow Americans must push back against this blatant act of discrimination and let liberals everywhere know they will not be bullied into silence.
