How The Obamas Have Used the Alinsky Method in Order to not Disclose the Truth

“The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are those with something to hide” – Obama (2010)

Irony usually signals a difference between the appearance of things and reality. Lenin talked one way to attain power; but, once in power, used every tactic available – including violence—to maintain power.

The power to deceive has bought down entire nations.  Attempts to expose deceivers and the opposition ‘hones in like merciless vultures’ with tactics like – distortion of the facts, character assassination, accusations of “racism,” “sexism,” “homophobia,” “insensitive,” “uncaring,” “fairness and inequality,” (increasing minimum wage), anything to silence and disparage the source.  Regardless of the facts, deceivers appeal to emotions and capitalize on an “unwitting,” apathetic, uninformed public.

Saul Alinsky, in Rules for Radicals, said:

“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. Since this tactic is almost impossible to counteract, the opposition becomes infuriated and then reacts to your advantage, the opposition must be singled out as the target and frozen.  The issue is never the issue -the issue is always the revolution.”

The main principle promoted by Alinsky was “the ends justify the means.” Those who have followed his philosophy espouse a belief in our republic and democracy; but…   class warfare, racism, sexism and other divisive tacticsare always front and center, forget debating issues which is what they don’t want.  So, what is behind the rhetoric?

With respect to politics, the main approach is “deceit.”  “Words” are important; but “the organizer must ‘clothe’ one’s goals and strategies with “moral arguments” (p36) – appeal to the emotional side of individuals; because, most won’t follow through on accountability or pursue the “truth.”

In a 1972 PLAYBOY interview he was asked:  “Mobilizing middle-class America would seem quite a departure for you after years of working with poverty-stricken black and white slum dwellers.  Do you expect suburbia to prove fertile ground for your organizational talents?”  His response:

“Yes … One thing I’ve come to realize is that any positive action for radical social change will have to be focused on the white middle class, for the simple reason that this is where the real power lies.  This is the so-called Silent Majority that our great Greek philosopher in Washington is trying to galvanize, and it’s here that the die will be cast and this country’s future decided for the next 50 years. There’s a second revolution seething beneath the surface of middle-class America — the revolution of a bewildered, frightened and as-yet-inarticulate group of desperate people groping for alternatives — for hope.”

“An organizer working in and for an Open society, an ideological dilemma to begin with, he does not have a fixed truth — truth and everything to him is relative and changing.”

Hitler said:  “all propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.”

Alinsky discussed a time when he “organized” college students to scam restaurants – present less expensive checks from other restaurants; avoid actual cost of an expensive meal (cafeterias went hi-tech).  Students returned:  ‘OK, Saul, what do we do next?’  He learned how ‘favors extended become defined as rights.’  His response was realistic:  ‘Do one of three things – 1) go find a wailing wall and feel sorry for yourselves; 2) go psycho and start bombing (Ayers Weather Underground – only swings people to the right); 3) learn a lesson – go home, organize, build power and at the next convention, you be the delegates.” — xxiii crossroad

How easy it is to “indoctrinate” the youth; until they discover the truth – maybe.  Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) -”The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.”  Unknown source: “Once you remove God from politics, law, culture and society, all you need is a charismatic radical leader to fill the void, to impose his will on the people, to be so fanatically devoted to an overarching, controlling idea — the State is god and has all the answers to society’s problems.”

Alinsky said: “Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people.   Capitalism is at this moment in disarray -policies of the government are aimed at its disruption.  The ability to create wealth is being destroyed “intentionally.”

“Our republic is overburdened through massive spending, debt, inflation (money creation), taxation, regulation, and property confiscation – all aimed at destroying our free enterprise system.”  Every appointee, policy, executive order, law with a singular goal of enslaving people to government, establishing the Democratic Party for eternity by destroying God, American exceptionalism, freedom and all opposition.  Enigmatic dictum to say the least!

The progressive left has a vision of America as it should be.  Utilizing “disinformation,” a controlled media and coercion leads to acceptance of a “collectivist ideology.”   The Obamas have mastered Alinsky’s strategies.

Politics is all about power relations, but to advance one’s power, one must couch one’s positions in the language of morality – “Community organizers are ‘political realists’ who see the world as it is: an arena of power politics moved primarily by perceived immediate self-interests, where morality is rhetorical rationale (words) for expedient action and self-interest”(p12).  Gore Vidal once said “Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”

There are three kinds of people in the world: rich and powerful oppressor (haves); the poor and disenfranchised oppressed (have-nots); and the middle-class (have a little, want more) whose apathy perpetuates the status quo – “the Haves, possess, all of ‘the power, money, food, security, and luxury’ and  resist the ‘change’ necessary to relieve the Have-Nots of the ‘poverty, rotten housing, disease, ignorance, political impotence, and despair’” (p18).   In 1820, Daniel Webster said:  “In the nature of things, those who have no property and see their neighbors possess much more than they think them to need, cannot be favorable to laws made for the protection of property.  When this class becomes numerous, it becomes clamorous. It looks on property as its prey and plunder, and is naturally ready, at times, for violence and revolution.”

Voltaire said, “The rich require an abundant supply of the poor.”

Alinsky believes the middle class “is the genesis of creativity,” (p19).  The Do-Nothings are those who “profess a commitment to social change for ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity, and then abstain from and discourage all effective action for change.”(p20).  Tocqueville in Democracy in America (1835) wrote, “Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.”

Change is brought about through relentless agitation and “trouble making” of a kind that radically disrupts society as it is – The organizer’s passion for radical change, must do his best to “stir up dissatisfaction and discontent, agitate to the point of conflict, dramatizes…injustices and engages in trouble making’ by stirring up angers, frustrations, and resentments” (p117).  The organizer must give rise to as much “confusion” and “fear” as possible (p127).

There can be no conversation between the organizer and his opponents.  The latter must be depicted as being evil – “The compulsion to “agitate” makes it sound as if the organizer is disinclined to converse with those with whom he disagrees. You don’t communicate with anyone purely on the rational facts or ethics of an issue” (p89) – “Moral rationalization.  To converse with one’s opponents is to humanize them.  The objective – demonize those who stand in the way of his designs for change.   The organizer “knows that there can be no action until issues are polarized to this degree” (p78).

“All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second, it is violently opposed; and Third, it is accepted as self-evident” – Arthur Schopenhauer

The organizer can never focus on just a single issue.  He must move inexhaustibly from one issue to the next – hence “multiple issues,” (p76).

Taunt one’s opponents to the point that they label you a “dangerous enemy” of “the establishment.” – “To put the organizer on the side of the people, to identify him with the Have-Nots,” imperative that he maneuver and bait the establishment so that it will publicly attack him as a ‘dangerous enemy’ (p100).

Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), wrote in Mein Kampf (1925), “The art of leadership … consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention…. The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.”

Charlton Heston, at a Harvard Law School Forum (1999) said:

“I’ve come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. For example, I marched for civil rights with Dr. King in 1963 – long before Hollywood found it fashionable. But when I told an audience last year that white pride is just as valid as black pride or red pride or anyone else’s pride, they called me a racist. I’ve worked with brilliantly talented homosexuals all my life. But when I told an audience that gay rights should extend no further than your rights or my rights, I was called a homophobe.

I served in World War II against the Axis powers. During a speech, I drew an analogy between singling out innocent Jews and singling out innocent gun owners; I was called an anti-Semite. Everyone knows I would never raise a closed fist against my country; but when I asked an audience to oppose this cultural persecution, I was compared to Timothy McVeigh. From Time magazine to friends and colleagues, they’re essentially saying, “Chuck, how dare you speak your mind; you are using language not authorized for public consumption!”

Justice William O. Douglas echoes Heston, writing “Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions….could most easily defeat us.”

Obama employs Alinsky’s tactics; however, not to give voice to the people and implement   REAL reform; but, to provide those in power with means to advance an ideology and goals outlined decades ago.  Liberal democracy describes a form of government with a Constitution, Rule of Law and freedoms.  What “liberals” and “progressives” have difficulty with are the basic principles. Distorted views

“of the world as it is” vs. their version of a “world as it should be” results in an oligarchy wherein democracy slowly and systematically corrupted by elitists who create the illusion of representation and reform.

Alinsky said: “Control of power is based on compromise among all the branches of government and that a society devoid of this is “totalitarian” (p59). “Ego” and “egotism” and implications of each are also discussed (p60-61).  Vis-à-vis Obama, “egotism” is what impedes his ability to “compromise” since the word itself is “regarded as ethically unsavory and ugly.”  Increasingly apparent his words are inconsistent with his actions.  The combination of this mindset along with the corruption permeating his and previous administrations is instituting an Oligarchy which ultimately leads to Tyranny.  History has a lot to say – the warnings are there.  Pursue the truth; not a revision based solely on one interpretation of past.
