As early as March 2011 there were reports that as many as 1,000 Al-Qaeda members had infiltrated the rebel forces in Libya.

But the Obama Administration chose to arm these rebels. One year later US Ambassador Chris Stevens was murdered by Al-Qaeda rebels in Libya. Eurasia Review reported:
