The president told Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) that he will not make efforts to secure America’s porous borders until such time as Congress passes an amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the country, Connie Hair of Human Events reports.
Kyl said Obama pointed out to him in a private meeting that Democrats would lose their leverage for an amnesty if the government stepped up security at the border. “The problem is if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform,” Obama allegedly said.
If it is true that Obama is refusing to enforce U.S. laws as required by Article II, section 1 of the U.S. Constitution (“The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America…”) this would appear to rise to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors” that the Constitution establishes as the threshold for impeachment.
Leftists could argue that President George W. Bush did the same thing too but I don’t think Bush ever made such a damaging admission. Bush always maintained he was trying to enforce the law, though one could argue what he was doing was too little and far too late.
This is completely different from the current Chief Executive of the United States brazenly stating he will not enforce the law, and even worse, that he will not enforce the law until a legislative favor is granted to him.
This is grounds for impeachment. The president of the United States must enforce the laws of the land. If he will not do his duty he must be removed from office.
