Senate permits gov’t to borrow an additional $1.9T

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Democratic-controlled Senate has muscled through a plan to allow the government to go a whopping $1.9 trillion deeper in debt.

The party-line 60-40 vote was successful only because Republican Sen.-elect Scott Brown has yet to be seated. Sixty votes were required to approve the increase. The measure would lift the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion. That’s about $45,000 for every American.

Democrats had to scramble to approve the plan, which means they won’t have to vote on another increase until after the midterm elections this fall. To win the votes of moderate Democrats, President Barack Obama promised to appoint a special task force to come up with a plan to reduce the deficit. The House must still vote on the measure before it’s sent to Obama for his signature.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

WASHINGTON (AP)—Senate Democrats are counting on their soon-to-expire 60-vote majority to raise the U.S. debt ceiling by $1.9 trillion so they do not have to take more politically painful votes on government borrowing until after the November elections.

They have no room for error. In the face of monolithic Republican opposition, they will need all 60 votes Thursday to let the government continue borrowing almost 40 percent of what it spends, much of it from China and other Asian nations who buy U.S. securities.

The legislation would put the government on track for a national debt of $14.3 trillion—equal to about $45,000 for every American—and provide a vivid reminder of the United States’ dire fiscal straits. New estimates released by the Congressional Budget Office on Tuesday show that the U.S. this year could run a deficit matching last year’s record $1.4 trillion shortfall.

To make raising the debt ceiling easier for moderates and politically endangered Democrats to swallow amid a populist uprising against government borrowing and spending, President Barack Obama promised in his State of the Union address Wednesday night to appoint a bipartisan task force to come up with a plan for dealing with the spiraling debt.

“I will issue an executive order that will allow us to go forward, because I refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of Americans,” he said.

The 60 votes Democrats need from their own caucus include those of incumbents facing difficult re-election battles this year as well as longtime opponents of raising the debt limit, such as Sen. Evan Bayh.

The task was made more difficult last week when Republican Scott Brown won the late Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat from Massachusetts. On Feb. 11, when Brown plans to take office, the Democrats’ majority shrinks to 59 in the 100-member Senate and the Republicans will have a 41-vote ability to block what they do not like in Obama’s and Democratic leaders’ agendas.

If the $1.9 trillion debt ceiling increase fails, the Senate would immediately vote on a fallback $635 billion increase already approved by the House. But that would require still another vote before the Nov. 2 Election Day to raise the ceiling again.

“It took 200 years to build the federal debt to a total of $1.9 trillion,” Sen. Judd Gregg, a Republican, said. “Now the majority wants to increase the current limit … by $1.9 trillion so that we can finance the government’s borrowing binge long enough to get us past the November 2010 elections.”

Congress has until mid-February before the current $12.4 trillion debt ceiling is reached, so there would not be an immediate crisis if the measure were to be defeated. But a losing vote—the tally was scheduled for around noo (1700 GMT), when financial markets are open—could unnerve the stock market. Lawmakers in both parties have promised they will not permit a market-rattling, first-ever default on U.S. obligations.

Democrats and Republicans alike share responsibility for running up the debt, but it falls upon Democrats to pass the measure since they control the government. It makes no difference that Republicans routinely backed increases in the debt when former President George W. Bush was in office.

Republicans blame recent generous spending bills enacted by the Democratic-controlled Congress for driving up the debt. Those measures, however, are just one relatively small part of the problem. The far bigger element is a sharp drop-off in tax revenues because of the recession and the economy’s slow recovery, as well as higher costs, since more people are taking unemployment benefits and food stamps in tough times.

As part of the debt ceiling bill, the Senate will also vote on new budget rules that would make Congress cover any increases in government benefits with either a corresponding tax increase, spending cuts elsewhere or a combination of the two. The same would apply for new tax cuts, such as the tax credit Obama proposed Wednesday night for small businesses that hire more workers. The tax cuts would have to be “paid” for with corresponding spending cuts or increases in other taxes.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat whose own re-election is in danger this November, reversed course and came out in support of the new rules after moderate Democrats in the House insisted on them as condition for passing a new $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

Obama Justice Department Balks on Black Panther Papers

Human Events

In a strange legal development in Washington last week, the Obama Justice Department refused to turn over most of the documents sought by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission in its probe of why a civil complaint was dismissed against members of the New Black Panther Party for disruption at a Philadelphia polling place in November ’06.

Justice’s 38-page response, which was obtained by the Washington Times, maintained that the requested documents were protected by attorney-client privilege or were not subject to disclosure because they included attorney or law enforcement work product. The amazing response also made the argument that the subpoenas violated existing executive orders, privacy and privilege concerns, and were burdensome, vague, and ambiguous.

The Civil Rights Commission has been trying to obtain the records related to the dismissal of the case and issued the subpoenas only on December 9 after repeated written requests resulted in what Commission General Counsel David Blackwood dubbed “a dearth of cooperation” from the Justice Department.

Obama refers to himself 114 times

Examiner

Any speech from President Obama is guaranteed to include numerous references to himself, blaming George Bush, and creating straw men.  Wednesday night’s State of the Union was no different.

By my count from watching the speech, here is a numbers breakdown of Obama’s first State of the Union:

114 – The staggering number of times Obama referred to himself. He said “I” 96 times, and used “my” or “me” 18 times. For example: “When I ran for president, I promised I wouldn’t just do what was popular, I would do what was necessary.”  Barack Obama’s favorite person is still Barack Obama.

86 – Times Obama was interrupted by applause, almost always by his fellow Democrats.

70 – The number of minutes the speech took.

13 – Stories of people that may or may not exist, in an attempt to personalize his speech.  Examples: “The window manufacturer in Philadelphia”, “the struggling small business owner who wrote to me”, and “the eight year old boy in Louisiana.”

10 – Times Obama blamed his own failures on George W. Bush.  Instead of owning up to his own failures, Obama must constantly try to remind people that the problems were there before he got into office.  Example:  “That’s what we did for eight years.”

4 – Attacks on Wall Street or bankers.  There is always a bogeyman that the Democrats must blame for the country’s woes.  Along with George Bush, the current evil entity is Wall Street.

4 – Arguments with straw men.  Obama loves to debate with people who do not have a forum.  He is able to get his point across and we are not allowed to hear from the other side.  Examples: “Those that disagree” and “some on the right.”

1 – Moderation from his ultra-liberal agenda.  He actually showed a willingness toward more opening America’s vast, untapped oil resources.  “It means making tough decisions about opening new offshore areas for oil and gas development.”  Unfortunately, this was the only example of Obama “moving to the center”.  Despite the Brown-out in Massachusetts, Obama has not learned the lesson that America rejects his leftist policies.

0 – New ideas.  It was the same old agenda from Obama.  He wants health care reform, another stimulus, cap and trade.  He remains tone deaf to the U.S. electorate.

0 – Changes in ObamaCare.  He repeatedly praised the plan and said it must be passed.  The main fault he found in it was that he “didn’t explain it more clearly.”  Obama said he would listen to new ideas, but the ideas of tort reform and allowing insurance purchases across state lines are not new.  He refused to listen to them before.

0 – Lessons learned from the failure of Porkulus.  Yesterday, we found out the $787 billion dollar plan actually cost $862 billion.  It failed miserably on its promise to keep unemployment below 8 percent.  Now, Obama wants a new “jobs plan”.

0 – Focus on national security.  There was no discussion of Guantanamo Bay, terrorist detainees being tried on U.S. soil, or the Flight 253 terror attemp.

Obama Citizenship Facts and Obama Birth Certificate Facts

Obama Birth Certificate Facts.org

FACT: Obama’s father was never a U.S. citizen nor was his father an immigrant to the USA nor was his father even a permanent resident of the USA. Obama’s father was merely sojourning as a transient in the USA as a student for a few years and returned to Kenya. Thus, Obama is not and never can be an Article II “natural born” citizen of the USA.

When Obama was born he was not a “natural born citizen” since both parents of a child must be citizens at the time of birth of the child in order for the child to be a “natural born” citizen. In addition to the requirement as to the parents citizenship status, the child must also be born in the USA. Obama may be a “born citizen” depending on the evidence in Hawaii. But “born” is NOT synonymous with “natural born”. And I am not talking about the difference between natural child birth and a “C” section. Natural in this sense refers to the “natural law” definition of citizenship. Obama can never be considered a “natural born citizen” no matter where he was born because his father was not a U.S. citizen. Both parents must be citizens at the time of birth of the child in the USA for the child to be a “natural born citizen” per our Constitution’s framers intent and the “natural law”, as codified by Vattel in 1758 in his legal reference treatise, “The Law of Nations”. The “divided loyalties” concerns of the framers of a person who is selected to serve as our President and Commander-in-Chief of our military comes into play. Thus the framers required a “natural born” citizen only mandate in the U.S. Constitution for the Office of President and Commander-in-Chief of our military.

“Natural born citizenship” is defined in the 250 year old scholarly book, “Law of Nations”, written in 1758, decades before our Constitution and was used as a scholarly reference by our U.S. Constitution’s framers. Some excerpts, “… natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. … I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country”. Comment and observation: When Obama wrote his first book he titled it “Dreams from My Father”. He wrote of his father in Kenya and how his father hoped and dreamed of changing the Kenyan government and the world to Socialism and Marxism. How prophetic Vattel’s words are in describing natural law and the propensity of man to identify with the land of their father. Obama did not write “Dreams from My Mother” and of America for his source of inspiration, dreams, and aspirations. Obama wrote of his father and his father’s Kenyan goals for Socialism and Marxism as his inspiration and his dreams of what he wanted to accomplish in America and for the world. Again, we must look to his first book title and his first book contents (and you must read the original un-scrubbed, first edition version to get the absolute passion of his hatred of whites and the American system of government) to learn where Obama’s true heart and soul loyalties are. And they are not to the USA, the birth place of his mother. His loyalties are to his father and other places outside the USA. He considers himself a “citizen of the world”, as he said in Berlin, before he considers himself to be a citizen of the USA. His political and familial foreign influences and interests and loyalties are obvious. As an adult he even meddled in Kenyan politics to help a member of his and his father’s tribe there achieve power in Kenya. This is not the type of President and Commander in Chief of our military that John Jay and General George Washington meant to have in future Presidents when they put the term “natural born citizen” in Article II of our Constitution as a necessary qualification for that singular and most powerful position in our new nation. They did not want a future President to have any recent familial and/or foreign allegiances, affinities, or influences on him. Jay’s and Washington’s worst fears about a possible future nation’s leader have now been fulfilled by ignoring our Constitution with the seating of Obama in the Oval Office. The Constitution was ignored in this election cycle with the help of an enabling Main Stream Media. It is now up to “We the People” to undue the wrong done against the Constitution and to the founding father’s of this great nation.

Won’t They Ever Let Obama Speak Without TOTUS?

The Obama File

Atlas Shrugs has a photo of Obama dropping in for a chat with his middle-class task force — and, lo and behold! — the ever-present teleprompter (TOTUS).

These people work for him.  They probably have palpitations just being in the same room as the Obamamessiah — and he needs to read his comments from the teleprompter (TOTUS).

Just last week, Obama needed TOTUS to address a group of 6th graders.

So, who’s really running the country?  It can’t possibly be this bozo.

Who is “We”?

Once again I have been sent an e-mail that sheds new light on another one of Barry’s speeches. For all you Libs out there that visit this site, please don’t bother, you wouldn’t understand.     1Dragon

President Barack Obama said in Turkey : “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”
