Government’s case weakening against the U.S. Navy SEALs?

Red State

Jan. 7, 2010

As Erick has been repeatedly noting, there is an effort afoot to bring the public’s attention to the plight of three U.S. Navy SEALs (Julio Huertas, Jonathan Keefe and Matthew McCabe) who, as part of SEAL Team 10, have been brought up on charges that one of the most-wanted terrorists in Iraq, Ahmed Hashim Abed, received a boo-boo during a raid in September.

In early December the trio plead not guilty to charges of dereliction of duty and making false official statements. One would expect the government, having already brought charges, to be prepared to move forward to trial, originally set for two of them a fortnight from now.

Well, if you thought that, you’d be wrong.

Documents were submitted Dec. 30 to the trial judge, Capt. Moira Modzelewski, requesting the government continue the special court-martial of Special Operator 1st Class (SEAL) Julio Antonio Huertas, scheduled to begin Jan. 11, and that of SO2 (SEAL) Matthew Vernon McCabe, scheduled for Jan. 19.

Seems that there are some problems with the government’s case.

Both Lombardi [Huertas’ attorney] and Puckett [McCabe’s attorney] say much of the government’s case so far is based on the statements of a third class master-at-arms who claims to have witnessed the alleged assault.

Both lawyers say the five separate statements given by that sailor appear to conflict with each other. Neither lawyer could discuss the exact details of the statements.

“I have read five different statements by this person, and all appear to be different,” Lombardi said.

The purported lack of evidence from the government has been identified as an issue since the arraignments started Dec. 7 and was the main reason that Keefe’s lawyer, Greg McCormack, asked for a continuance at Keefe’s Dec. 20 arraignment.

Seize onto this situation while the iron is hot. Go sign the petition asking that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, intervene to dismiss the charges against the three SEALs and direct that they be restored to duty.

These are American Heroes. They deserve better than this.

Why Won’t the MSM Cover Islam? What Are They Afraid Of?

Western Journalism

There are many things on the World Wide Web that are not suitable for public viewing but that should be required viewing for journalists and political figures to alert them to the horrors that exist in some parts of the world. This should not be to incite but rather to rinse away their naïveté in dealing with a hostile culture and our potential enemies.

The media refuses to report things that are unfavorable to Islam

It is apparent that the mainstream media has no interest in covering stories that shed an unfavorable side of Islam and, frankly, this smacks of cowardice.

The elite will instead claim that the “vast majority” of Muslims are peace-loving and are just as horrified at the acts of a small number of radical terrorists.  That may very well be true but even a fraction of a billion is a very large number and that number is growing and gaining influence around the world thanks to the stupidity and cowardice of what should be called the “lamestream” press and those in our government today.

The Internet bloggers are doing the nasty job of covering the world of Islamic jihadists and it is truly chilling. The video of Daniel Pearl’s beheading could not be shown on the public airwaves but was easily available on the web. Gruesome as it was it cannot compare with this video of children training for Jihad beheading a man all the while praising Allah.

This video is shown on a site that monitors the growing influence of the radicals and frankly I had no stomach to watch more than a second of the film. As is noted here:  “It’s the next generation of mujahideen who are expected to fight and kill infidels to establish global Islamic rule.”

Just A Liar And Not A Leader

The Obama Files

Rob Binsrick says that during one of Barack Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress last year, he was met at one point with an emphatic outburst of “You lie!” by Congressman Joe Wilson.  At the time Wilson’s outburst was deemed to be disrespectful, demeaning, unprofessional and/or even just stupid.  In retrospect though, Wilson should be commended for pointing out what is the absolute truth about Obama, which is that he is indeed a liar.

When Bill Clinton was serving as president, it became very evident that he was a pathological liar.  However, Clinton’s lies were more of a personal nature which for the most part only affected himself.  On the other hand, Obama’s lies will affect hundreds of millions of Americans for generations to come.

As a prime example of Obama’s pathological lying, there is perhaps none more glaring than his reversal about holding healthcare hearings in the public eye, which he often noted would be broadcasted on C-SPAN.  He made these vows eight times during the presidential campaign (video at link).

Now though, Congressional leaders have decided that they are not even going to follow the normal protocol of reconciling the House and Senate versions of their respective healthcare bills through the use of bi-partisan conference committees.  Instead, they are going to hold closed-door meetings which will involve only Democrat leaders from both houses of Congress and representatives from the Obama administration.  Republicans will essentially be completely shut out of the process.

Obama, for his part, rather than asking the Congressional leaders to help him keep his campaign promises is instead fully supporting their plans and even asking them to speed up the process as much as possible.  The main reason for the urgency is so Obama can speak about the legislation during his state of the union address in February.

Yes, that is correct, the reason for the urgency is not because the bill is so good for and/or so needed by the American people that it needs to be passed as quickly as possible.  Instead, the reason for the urgency by the Democrats is simply so Obama has a talking point in his speech.

Obama has talked about how proud he is of the Democrats in Congress for passing their healthcare bills and talked about how it was a victory for all Americans.  Then why are they so afraid of letting the American people see the process?  If this legislation is supposedly so good, then the Democrats should be lauding it daily in the public eye and it should be the cornerstone of their election campaigns in 2010.  Instead though, they are doing all that they can to hide the bill and to hide their actions from the public eye

The reasons for that are obvious.  First and most importantly, it is not a good bill.  The majority of the American people do not support it.  It will inevitably add to the deficit regardless of how many accounting gimmicks the Democrats use to hide that fact.  And the quality of health care will go down if this bill passes.

Second, the Democrats do not want the American to see for themselves the back-room deals and sweetheart packages that they have to include in the bill to get their own party members to vote for it.  And once again, if the bill is supposedly so good then why would those bribes and incentives be needed anyway?

Third, the Democrats and Obama do not want the American people to see just how partisan they have become by locking out the Republicans and even the more moderate Democrats from the process.  Obama once stated that if Iran would offer an open hand to him then he would meet with them.  However, he will not even do that with fellow Americans who disagree with him.  That is not leadership but is instead a clear sign of cowardice.  It is tantamount to the playground crybaby who takes his ball and goes home whenever he does not get his way.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in discussing this healthcare reform process, actually stated that “There has never been a more open process” in passing the legislation.  Even if that comment had been intended as a joke it would have still raised eyebrows.  The fact that she was actually being serious when she said it should concern every American because it shows how Pelosi and her cohorts define openness.

The real problem here though is still Obama.  He could have acted like a president at some point and made the process more open and more bi-partisan.  However, he instead turned it over to the highly partisan Democrats in Congress and has now joined in with them in their orgy of spending and government intervention.  When the American people heard Obama’s bold statements on the campaign they voted for him to be a new bold leader.  But instead of a leader all they got is a bold-faced liar.

Pearl Harbor Day erased! Happy Islamic New Year

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Explosive outrage is being unleashed on a popular supermarket chain after it published a 2010 calendar marking the date of Dec. 7 with the Islamic New Year, while eliminating any mention of Pearl Harbor Day, commemorating the 1941 attack on the U.S. by Japan.

The forward magazine of USS Shaw explodes during the 2nd Japanese attack wave on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Dec. 7, 1941. To the left of the explosion, Shaw’s stern is visible, at the end of floating drydock. At right is the bow of USS Nevada, with a tug alongside fighting fires.

Joyce Kaufman, a talk-show host on WFTL Radio in South Florida, made the “date which will live in infamy” the centerpiece of her broadcast today, expressing outrage at Publix Supermarkets for its calendar omission.

“We have guys that are fighting Islamic fundamentalists right now in Afghanistan and guarding them from ruining what little freedom they have achieved in Iraq,” said Kaufman. “And now I gotta celebrate their new year over here in my country when they’re getting on airplanes and trying to blow up planes out of the sky in Detroit? I gotta have their New Year’s Day on my calendar and not Pearl Harbor Day? We’ve lost our minds!”

Kaufman and many callers to her station called it a “slap in the face” to all those who fought for America’s freedoms over the years.

“I’m done,” she said. “I’m not walking into a Publix until there’s a formal apology. I’m not walking into a Publix until the calendars have all been pulled. I’m not walking into a Publix until they reissue a calendar and re-evaluate what they put on their calendars. It’s a free country, but I don’t have to shop there.”

Sarah Palin: Obama’s Terrorism Approach “Fatally Flawed”

CBS News

Posted by Stephanie Condon

(AP)

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin railed against President Obama today, saying “his fundamental approach to terrorism is fatally flawed” and that “the real nature of the terrorist threat requires a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor.”

The same day the president met with his national security team to discuss the security reviews he ordered after the alleged attempt to blow up a plane on Christmas Day, Palin posted a note on Facebook criticizing the administration’s response to the event.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who allegedly attempted to blow up the plane headed for Detroit, Mich., “is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant,” Palin wrote. Abdulmutallab is currently in federal custody, in which he told U.S. investigators he received training and instructions from al Qaeda operatives in Yemen.

“It simply makes no sense to treat an al Qaeda-trained operative willing to die in the course of massacring hundreds of people as a common criminal,” Palin wrote. “Reports indicate that Abdulmutallab stated there were many more like him in Yemen but that he stopped talking once he was read his Miranda rights. President Obama’s advisers lamely claim Abdulmutallab might be willing to agree to a plea bargain – pretty doubtful you can cut a deal with a suicide bomber.”

She added, “We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001.”

Palin fails to address the fact that the Bush administration prosecuted “shoe bomber” Richard Reid, an al Qaeda operative, in civilian court, and he is now serving a life term in maximum-security prison.

The former 2008 vice presidential candidate also says that “acts of terrorism are just that, not ‘man caused disasters,'” invoking the infamous phrasing from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

“I was totally misinterpreted in a sense of what I was trying to communicate,” Napolitano later told the New York Times. “It was just a mistake. In the editing process, that phrase, usually it’s ‘terrorism or other man-caused disasters.'”
