Obama has no enumerated power to release GITMO prisoners, but here we go again!

Family Security Matters

by LTC ALLEN WEST (US ARMY RET)

Sure seems we’ve come to a point where the rule of law means little to the Obama administration – or the oath taken to faithfully execute our laws.

With that in mind, Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution, at times referred to as the War Powers Clause, vests in the Congress the power to declare war, in the following wording: “[The Congress shall have Power…] To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water.”

I searched Article II to see if there was anything to contradict these enumerated powers bestowed upon the U.S. Congress – and found nothing. Now, I can immediately draw your attention to President Obama’s ill-conceived venture into Libya – which we have addressed several times, most recently here discussing the involvement of ISIS there – and where was the “humanitarian crisis? I could also alert you to the fact that we are deploying troops back into Iraq, but there has been no declaration from Congress on war – and we are dropping bombs and folks are shooting – a basic definition of war, as far as I know.

We drove Saddam’s Yellowcake to Baghdad Airport

Family Security Matters

As someone who led the company that transported 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium-enough to make fourteen Hiroshima-size bombs-from Saddam’s nuclear complex in the Iraq War’s notorious “Triangle of Death” for air shipment out of the country, I know Baathist Iraq’s WMD potential existed. In early 2008, we secretly moved over several nights 140 truckloads carrying 5500 barrels of extremely heavy radioactive material provided to Iraq as part of the French-supplied Osiraq reactor destroyed by Israeli fighter bombers in 1981. The virulently anti-Semitic Saddam had announced “here begins the Arab bomb” and the Israelis took him at his word.

Islamic State: Brought to You by Our Democrat Administration

isis-democrats

Moonbattery

As if this isn’t bad enough…

As he was being released from an American detention camp in Iraq in 2009, the man who will go on to head the powerful ISIS group issued a menacing warning to his former captors.

‘I’ll see you guys in New York,’ Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi reportedly told U.S. Army reservists from Long Island who had been guarding him at Camp Bucca near the Kuwaiti border.

…and this

[I]n the decade since the 2003 US-led Iraq invasion, the US has spent a fortune training and arming the Iraqi army in the hopes of readying it to secure the country once America left. That meant arming the Iraqi army with high-tech and extremely expensive American-made guns, tanks, jeeps, artillery, and more.

[…After Obama prematurely withdrew our troops,] ISIS invaded northern Iraq from Syria in June, the Iraqi forces deserted or retreated en masse. Many of them abandoned their American equipment. ISIS scooped it up themselves and are now using it to rampage across Iraq, seizing whole cities, terrorizing minorities, and finally pushing into even once-secure Kurdish territory. All with shiny American military equipment.

…and this

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Sunday that the Sunni militants taking over Iraq have quickly gained power because the United States armed their allies in Syria.

“I think we have to understand first how we got here,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think one of the reasons why ISIS has been emboldened is because we have been arming their allies. We have been allied with ISIS in Syria.”

…and this

Syrian rebels who would later join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIS, were trained in 2012 by U.S. instructors working at a secret base in Jordan, according to informed Jordanian officials.

…there’s also this:

The Obama administration says it will seek $500 million from Congress to help “train and equip appropriately vetted elements of the moderate Syrian armed opposition,” funding that, if approved, would deepen U.S. involvement in that country’s civil war.

National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden announced on Thursday that the administration would seek the money that she said would build on “longstanding efforts” by the United States “to empower the moderate Syrian opposition.”

The Syrian opposition is exactly what spawned ISIS.

If these are mistakes, why do Obama et al. keep making them?

1,461 Days of Summer: Obama’s endless second-term vacation

Family Security Matters

The headline was brutal. “Bam’s Golf War: Prez tees off as Foley’s parents grieve,” read the cover of Thursday’s New York Daily News. Obama’s gaffe was this: He had denounced the beheading of James Foley from a vacation spot in Martha’s Vineyard, then went to the golf course. Seems like he had a great time. Such a great time that he returned to the Farm Neck Golf Club-sorry, membership is full-the next day.

Technically, Obama’s vacation began on August 9. It is scheduled to end on Sunday, August 24. With the exception of a two-day interlude in D.C., it has been two weeks of golf, jazz, biking, beach going, dining out, celebrating, and sniping from critics, not all of them conservative, who are unnerved by the president taking time off at a moment of peril.

Obama Golfs For FIVE HOURS as US Evacuates Embassy Staff From Baghdad Chaos

Gateway Pundit

President Barack Obama spent a leisurely five hours golfing Sunday afternoon as his Martha’s Vineyard vacation continues while Iraq falls further into chaos.

As Obama was midway through his golf outing reports from Baghdad erupted with rumors that Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki was staging a coup to hold on to power as Iraq struggles to form a new government while fighting off the ISIS terrorists’ conquest of large swaths of Iraq.

Right before heading off for his annual two week vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, Obama ordered air strikes against ISIS to ward off a possible advance against Erbil in Kurdish controlled northern Iraq.

The news out of Baghdad was preceded by an unheralded announcement that the Obama administration was evacuating some, but not all, U.S. personnel from Baghdad and Erbil.

“Obama’s golf partners today are Cyrus Walker, Ahmad Rashad and Robert Wolf”

The State Department casually mentioned in a travel advisory issued Sunday that some staff in Iraq was being relocated:

“The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all but essential travel to Iraq. Travel within Iraq remains dangerous given the security situation. The Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil remain open and operating, but the Department of State has relocated a limited number of staff members from the Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil to the Consulate General in Basrah and the Iraq Support Unit in Amman. The Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil remain open and operating. This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning dated August 8, 2014, to note the departure of some staff from the Consulate General in Erbil. The ability of the Embassy to respond to situations in which U.S. citizens face difficulty, including arrests, is extremely limited.”

Rampant rumors of a coup by Maliki to remain as prime minister for a third term were based on reports of Iraqi military being suddenly deployed in key areas in Baghdad including the presidential palace and the Green Zone. The Wall Street Journal quoted an experienced Iraqi hand as saying this was not a coup–yet.

““We have noticed suspicious security movements in Baghdad, distribution for forces and tanks which if persist can be considered a coup,” a former senior Kurdish official involved in the negotiations (to form a new government) said. “So far, we haven’t reached that point. It’s only Maliki showing his muscles.””

The Journal reported troops were deployed in the Green Zone. Other reports had troops stationed in neighborhoods around the Green Zone. Brett McGurk, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs (Iraq and Iran), tweeted Sunday evening U.S. support for Iraq’s new President Fuad Masum over Maliki.

The Hill reported Sunday night that State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf repeated McGurk’s support for Masum in a statement that also said the U.S. was monitoring the situation in Iraq.

“U.S. officials are “closely monitoring” developments in Iraq amid reports of a possible coup and are in touch with Iraqi leaders.

“”The United States fully supports President Fuad Masum in his role as guarantor of the Iraqi Constitution,” State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said in a statement.

““We reaffirm our support for a process to select a Prime Minister who can represent the aspirations of the Iraqi people by building a national consensus and governing in an inclusive manner. We reject any effort to achieve outcomes through coercion or manipulation of the constitutional or judicial process,” Harf added.”

““The United States stands ready to support a new and inclusive government, particularly in the fight against ISIL,” Harf said. “We believe such a new and inclusive government is the best way to unify the country against ISIL, and to enlist the support of other countries in the region and international community.””

ISIS Has Seized 88 Pounds Of Uranium In Northern Iraq

Free Republic

With the mainstream media having moved on in the news cycle to Dow ‘almost’ 17,000 and the ‘Border Crisis’ Scandal, it seems The Islamic State (the terrorists formerly known as ISIS) have stepped up their game and come out swinging… by seizing 88 pounds of nuclear material (uranium compounds) from Mosul University. As Iraq’s UN Ambassador warned, “these nuclear materials, despite the limited amounts mentioned, “can be used in manufacturing weapons of mass destruction… or in combination with other materials in its terrorist acts.”

As Reuters reports, insurgents in Iraq have seized nuclear materials used for scientific research at a university in the country’s north, Iraq told the United Nations in a letter appealing for help to “stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad.”

Nearly 40 kilograms (88 pounds) of uranium compounds were kept at Mosul University, Iraq’s U.N. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim told U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the July 8 letter obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

“Terrorist groups have seized control of nuclear material at the sites that came out of the control of the state,” Alhakim wrote, adding that such materials “can be used in manufacturing weapons of mass destruction.”

“These nuclear materials, despite the limited amounts mentioned, can enable terrorist groups, with the availability of the required expertise, to use it separate or in combination with other materials in its terrorist acts,” said Alhakim.

The US is playing down the threat (for a change)
